Traci Carter Holsey

Award-Winning Director

About

Traci Carter Holsey is the Head of Development for Niecy Nash-Bett’s Production Company Chocolate Chick Inc and is an up and coming TV director.  She recently joined the Ryan Murphy Half Initiative Director’s Shadow Program, shadowing Chad Lowe and Brad Buecker on Fox’s Procedural Drama “9-1-1 :Lonestar.”

Her current film “Take the Cake” is an official selection in the 2024 Georgia Comedy Film Festival. “The Promposal,” was an official selection in the 2023 LA Live Score Film Festival in Hollywood as well as an official selection of the Hollywood Gold Awards, The Golden State Film Festival and The Rhode Island Black Film Festival.

With a background in stand up comedy, Traci is passionate about half hour multicam sitcoms. Traci has been observing director on Netflix’ multigenerational comedy “Family Reunion,” and Nickelodeon’s “That Girl Lay Lay.” She has also shadowed S4 of CBS’ “The Neighborhood.”

Working with A List talent and having worked just about every crew position on film and TV helped Traci to develop her style as a collaborative leader. Her 20 + years as a producer sharpened her ability to work with a multitude of personalities from small low budget sets to larger crews. Now she uses that experience to bring scripts to life as a director, delivering projects on time and on budget with an eye for compelling visual storytelling.

“After multiple entry level jobs in the non scripted and basic cable world, I pivoted. In the scripted world, I started out as an Executive Assistant to show runners for a writing duo for a half hour multi cam for a major Broadcast Television network. While I was learning episodic, I had access to scripts  and production. I was in search of the best fit for the production skills I was gaining. Directing is a role where I use my leadership skills and ability to think on the fly and make adjustments in the moment.”

Traci also spent over a decade at Black Entertainment Television producing live production and music driven programming. Her background in directing non scripted episodes with A List talent Tia Mowry sharpened her skills to scout various locations with the team, assess the technical and creative capabilities and make quick concise creative decisions.

Traci has an M.F.A in Television/Film Production from Mount Saint Mary’s University. Traci is a proud member of the Alliance of Women Directors and was chosen for the 2023 Cohort for the Black Director’s Initiative, is a board member of the Black Girls Film Camp and is an active member of the Producers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild.

Traci resides in Los Angeles, CA.
